Mercedes will release an electric model of the popular Sprinter van

Mercedes-Benz has announced an electric model of the Sprinter van and truck dispatch training classes, which is very popular with European utilities and delivery companies. There are no details on what the eSprinter will be like yet. It is assumed that Mercedes will offer vans in a variety of configurations, depending on the needs of each organization. It is known that this will be an “urban model”, not designed for long-distance travel.

The new “eSprinter” will go on sale in 2019 and will be the first fully connected model in its segment. According to Mercedes representatives, the van will be no cheaper than diesel counterparts in operation, but it is worth buying for the sake of the environment.

According to Mercedes, the company is building the “eSprinter” solely for the sake of the environment, and not so that organizations can save on fuel. However, in some cases, the electric Sprinter will cost less than diesel counterparts: it will have enough charge for a full day in London, but there will be no need to pay an internal combustion engine tax.

Plus, the eSprinter will be a fully connected model. They can be controlled remotely using a smartphone. Let’s say you turn on the heat while you’re skiing so you can get back into the warm van when you get back.

The eSprinter will go on sale in 2019, the exact date has not yet been announced. Even if the release of the Mercedes electric van is delayed a little, it will still make a small revolution in its segment. Since it is one of the most popular vehicles in the region, replacing the diesel version with an electric version could significantly reduce air pollution in Europe.

Mercedes-Benz has officially launched its grand plan to electrify the brand. In the next five years, the company will build six new factories on three continents – in Germany, France, the United States and China, as well as create a “global network” of battery mini-factories. The first electric versions of all Mercedes-Benz models, including the Smart, will appear by 2022.
